Music enthusiasts are invited to be part of the Live & Local Fridays Summer Concert Series on Friday, August 1, 2014. The concert series will start at 8:00 in the evening at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, 7380 E. Second Street, Scottsdale, Arizona.

Attendees will get to enjoy music coming from the hottest musicians and bands in the comforts of the Virginia G. Piper Theater. Be sure to arrive early and indulge in the $5 happy hour drink specials as well as Distrito’s modern Mexican tacos.

Gracing  this activity is The Sugar Thieves Band, dubbed as the “Meat Shakin’ Blues Band” which incorporates Mississippi, New Orleans, Chicago, and Memphis sounds alongside jazz, blues, gospel, roots, and folk music. Opening the concert is Mikel Lander and Meridith Moore.

Everyone is invited to be part of the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art’s (SMoCA) Arm Wrestling for Art on Friday, July 25, 2014. The event will start at 7:00 in the evening at the SMoCA located at 7374 East Second Street, Scottsdale, Arizona.

Attendees will get to attend art lessons from the Curator of Contemporary Art Emily Stamey. This will be followed by arm wrestling lessons from Ultimate Body Bootcamp owner and fitness guru Richelle Melde. Finally, guests will get to arm wrestle with their fellow community members and win a prize.

Participants of the arm wrestling activity may go home with a painting by artist James Marshall (a.k.a. Dalek). He recently finished the colourful murals within the Lounge, SMoCa’s retail store and outdoor courtyard.

Tickets are priced at $8 for members and $10 for those purchasing online. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Good N’ Plenty Artist Award, a community-based generated award supporting the projects of Arizona-based art makers.

Health care professionals are invited to attend the Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Course on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. The course will be from 7:30 in the morning until 1:30 in the afternoon at the Brady Conference Center located at the Shea Medical Center, 12002 E Shea Boulevard #5, Scottsdale, Arizona.

This class is designed to provide a wide array of health care professionals with the the skills and abilities to be able to recognize a number of life-threatening emergencies, use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), provide CPR, as well as relieve choking in an effective, timely, and safe manner.

Admission fee is $36 and attendees will be provided with an AHA text book. Participants will be given an AHA course completion card upon finishing the course.

Please come on time as no one will be allowed to enter the class after 7:40 in the morning.

Parents and children ages 6 years old and above are invited to attend the Reptiles of Arizona Session on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. The event will be from 3:30 to 4:15 in the afternoon at the Civic Center Library Auditorium located at 3839 N. Drinkwater Boulevard, Scottsdale, Arizona.

Participants of this activity will get to see some great and amazing local reptiles. A trained Phoenix Herpetological Society volunteer will also share information on what the reptile behaviour is, what safety measures need to be remembered, how to preserve these animals, and what its habitat is.

Staff personnel will be giving out tickets to those who are interested to attend. The same ticket will serve as the child’s registration.

The Civic Center Library is open from Mondays to Thursdays from 9:00 in the morning until 9:00 in the evening, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the evening, and Sundays from 1:00 until 5:00 in the afternoon.

Be part of the Medical Sort and Pack at Project C.U.R.E. happening on Saturday, July 19, 2014. The activity starts at 9:00 in the morning at 80 W Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe, Arizona.

Attendees of this event will be sorting and packing desperately needed medical supplies which will be shipped to a number of hospitals, orphanages, and clinics in more than 100 poverty stricken countries all around the world.

The aim of this event is bringing hope and health to the world together with Project C.U.R. E, a national faith-based organization.

Volunteers will be given the chance to learn much more about medical supplies as well as the urgent needs of them those under-resourced countries. Interested volunteers have to be at least 14 years old and have a signed Youth Volunteer Waiver to participate.

The venue is a warehouse, so kindly wear appropriate clothing. Bringing of water is likewise encouraged.
